Food Backpack Program, Isthmus Thunder Bay

In the Fall of 2024, Soroptimist’s spearheaded a $500.00 Gift Card Raffle in support of Isthmus (formerly  Blessings in a Backpack).  This organization distributes food every Friday to elementary students across the city who are in need of a little extra something on the weekends.  In December of 2024, Soroptimist’s were humbled to present a cheque in the amount of $1400.00.  Amina Abu-Bakare was very grateful for our donation and enlightened us on how significant this program is to the youth it services.

Here are a few photos of Soroptimist members Lorrie Haslam, Shirley Smith, our president Cindy Figus, and Kathleen Rismondo, helping fill 437 backpacks and the cheque presentation to Amina Abu Bakare from Isthmus.

Thunder Bay Soroptimist and the Children's Aid Society
